Inseparable from the global poker boom, with the creation of a television program broadcast all around the world, the World Poker Tour is the starting point for many fans of Texas Hold’em. The cornerstone of poker’s development in France, the program began in 2005 on Canal+ and was presented by Denis Balbir, accompanied by Patrick Bruel.

The show, broadcast in seasons, featured the various WPT tournaments held each year across the United States and Europe. Over the years, several stages around the world have been added. During the first five years, a French stage was held at the ACF (Aviation Club de France) in Paris. Tournament entry fees range from $3,000 to $10,000, with a prize pool reaching hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The World Poker Tour very quickly became one of the biggest international tournaments, popular with all players around the world.

Not appearing in France from 2010 following changes in online gaming regulations, the World Poker Tour returned to Paris in 2014 and 2015, at the Cercle Clichy Montmartre, in the form of the WPTDeepStacks. This circuit, which is different from the Main Tour, brings together a greater number of players thanks to its more accessible buy-in (€1,500). In 2016, the French capital once again dropped off the WPT calendar.

An unmissable stage of the first seasons, Paris is a stronghold in the history of the World Poker Tour. In 2020, Hermance Blum, the then General Manager of WPT Europe, and Club Pierre Charron decided to resume this love affair and bring the legendary tournament back to Paris.

That year, the WPT and Club Pierre Charron signed a three-year partnership for organization of the WPTDeepStacks Paris. The first edition took place from February 19 to March 2, 2020, and broke all participation and prize pool records in France (853 entries, €1,107,488 prize pool).
